The ESPEN practical guideline “Clinical Nutrition in. Cancer” has been structured according to a flow chart covering all nutritional aspects of cancer (Fig. 1).

The specific objectives of this guideline, therefore, are to improve early detection and treatment of malnutrition and metabolic derangements in cancer patients.

Patients with cancer are at particularly high risk for malnutrition because both the disease and its treatments threaten their nutritional status.
